TURBINE/REACTOR TRIP ON SG 2 HIGH LEVEL

The plant was performing the Turbine Overspeed Protection test after the plant outage. At the Rx power 2-3% when the test team was adjusting "valve position limit", the turbine governor valves suddenly partially opened. The resulting increase in the steam flow was sensed as an increase of the turbine impulse chamber pressure and consequently as an increase of Rx power over P-7 (10%). Dwell effect in the SG 2 caused high level turbine trip which scrammed the reactor.
During the transient all required safety systems were fully available.
