REACTOR TRIP DUE TO ACTUATION OF GROUND FAULT RELAY

Yonggwang unit 2 was at the startup stage on March 8, 1995. At 40% of rated power (950 MWe) reactor was tripped due to a reactor coolant system flow low signal which came from RCP stop at 4 a.m. the same day. Actuation of ground fault relay made RCP stop. Investigation was carried out soon after the plant trip and revealed that the connection part of the electrical system in containment penetration was damaged. All the safety protection systems were actuated correctly and there was no release of radioactive material in the plant.
Justification: As full safety functions were available, the event is rated at
6level "0" as per user's manual Part III, Table II, A1.
