From the publication:
What is WIPP? The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, New Mexico, is intended to serve as the nation's first nuclear waste dump for radioactive waste generated by the nuclear weapons production industry. The WIPP plan calls for radioactive weapons waste from ten sites across the U.S. to be shipped to New Mexico for burial in the salt beds at WIPP. Despite many critical safety issues surrounding WIPP, the Department of Energy (DOE) is working to emplace radioactive and hazardous waste at the site regardless of federal environmental laws and compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. In addition to geological problems at the site, the questionable wisdom of trucking nuclear waste through 23 states, 26 Indian reservations, through major population centers, and past schools and homes has sparked public concern about WIPP. iQué es WIPP?
