Welcome to Bradwell power station, one of Nuclear Electric's 12 operating
generating plants which play a vital role in helping to provide England and Wales
with electricity safely, cleanly and efficiently.
Situated on the Blackwater estuary, one-and-a-half miles from Bradwell-on-Sea,
Bradwell is one of Nuclear Electric's seven Magnox reactor sites.
On a typical day the station's two reactors can supply 6.125 million kilowatt hours
of electricity- enough to meet the needs of three towns the size Chelmsford,
Colchester and Southend.
Bradwell's 10 hectare (24 acre) site was chosen because of:

• An unlimited supply of cooling water from the Blackwater estuary - the station
uses up to 227 million litres an hour.
• The land which had minimal agricultural value.
• The area which has good access and spent nuclear fuel can be transported easily
to Sellafield in Cumbria.
• The stable geological substrata which is capable of supporting very heavy plant.
