Preface

00.1 This Report contains the findings of a study conducted into the human
consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident on behalf of UNDP and UNICEF,
fifteen years after the explosion. The study was conducted by a multidisciplinary
international team in July and August 2001. The Mission explored the health,
socio-economic and environmental effects of the accident and the events that
followed in the framework of an inter-disciplinary approach. The Report contains
an analysis of the current situation and the prospects for the future, focusing on
those aspects that are significant for the well-being of the most directly affected
people and communities.
