text in English: A call: Dodewaard will close! Week of action 19 -26 Sept. Join an affinity group. Dodewaard is everywhere!

background: The Dodewaard will close! movement decided early 1981 to organize a second blockade after the Oct. 1980 one. Since the weather was very bad in Oct, it was decided to hold the action in September. From the beginning the idea’s about the blockade were different from the year before. During the discussions it was clear that the non-violent faction was not so in the forefront as in 1980. One of the main reasons for that shift was the very violent reaction of the riot police breaking a non-violent blockade in Nijmegen during the eviction of the Pierson-squat early 1981. For many people it had become clear that non-violence didn’t bring you any further: if the police attacked you, you had no choice but fighting back. That had been the opinion of (mainly) Amsterdam-groups the year before (in 1980 there were many very violent clashes with police in Amsterdam, even to the extend that army had to assist riot police), but now larger segments of the movement felt that way. It was not that many people felt the movement had to start violence, just that it made no sense to stay non-violent when police attacked.
This poster is the first public announcement of the action in September, it was ment to be used by local groups for their own announcements. The Dodewaard is everywhere! slogan made it clear that all organizations and companies involved in nuclear power could be an action target.
At least now it was very clear that the main slogan Dodewaard will close! is not a demand, a question or wish, it is a conclusion: the movement stated: we will make sure that the reactor will be closed!
