'THE URENCO ENRICHMENT PLANTS'

1. INTRODUCTION

It is now six years since the Urenco/Centec organisation was established by the
integration of the centrifuge projects in the Netherlands, United Kingdom and the
Federal Republic of Germany. Each of those three projects had then reached the
stage of constructing a pilot plant after more than ten years of design, development
and test work in the centrifuge field. In our few years, the troika organisation has
moved from that pioneering development phase into a recognised commercial
supplier of enrichment services, operating the world's first commercial enrichment
plants. We are pleased to be contributing to an international conference which is
reviewing operating experience from actual production plants.

This paper outlines Urenco's basic technical philosophy on its enrichment plants
and explains how this has been applied in practice.
