20 YEARS LOOKING FORWARD Urenco's twentieth birthday is a time not only for celebration but also for looking ahead. We are confident that there will be a revival of nuclear power around the world during the next decade because it is economically justifiable and environmentally sound as an alternative to fossil fuels. Ready for this future growth, Urenco continues at the cutting-edge of technology. The Research and Development laboratories are exploiting the development potential of new materials and improved rotor systems; the plant design and centrifuge manufacturing teams are introducing progressive innovations. Urenco is also evaluating the technical and economic potential of the laser based enrichment processes for possible introduction if one of them becomes more competitive in the long term than Urenco's advanced centrifuge technology. There will always be changes in the patterns of supply and demand and therefore in the market conditions. Urenco is confident that it can meet these challenges, as in the first twenty years, in a spirit of co-operation with customers, meeting their supply and flexibility requirements and offering a genuine commercial source of enrichment.
