MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGEMENT

1 984 was the turning point in the transformation of what had been a large
construction site into a nuclear power plant.

It is also in 1 984 that the Paluel Nuclear Power Plant published its first bulletin
describing, for the outside world, its activities. From now on, this bulletin will
appear annually; it will provide a retrospective view of the previous year's activities.

During 1 984, the first kWh's generated by nuclear power were produced on the
Paluel site. This was the first nuclear energy produced in Normandy which, in a
few years, will become an important nuclear generation area.

Unit 1, the prototype for the new E.D.F. 1 300 MW reactor, was connected to the
grid June 22, 1 984, and, after a long series of tests carried out due to its innovative
nature, reached full power on December 14, 1 984. Unit 2 was connected to the grid
on 14th September 1 984; it reached full power on December 28, 1 984. On that day,
at 4:15p.m., the Paluel plant was generating 2 700 MW of electricity, or
approximately 6 % of the total capacity required by the network at that time.

This success was the product of the efforts made by all E.D.F. employees,
construction companies, and site workers who participated in the design,
construction, installation, and commissioning of this fine generation plant.

The very cold spell which we have just experienced has shown the capacity of these
units to respond to the requirements of the network. I am convinced that 1 985 will
show that the two units of the Paluel Nuclear Power Plant, with a third unit coming
into operation in the summer, will be comparable, in terms of generation and
availability, to the results of the 900 MW units.
