From the publication:
FOE'S SAFE ENERGY CAMPAIGN Friends of the Earth's Safe Energy Campaign was launched in June with a Week of Action against Nuclear Power. This included demonstrations outside power stations and electricity showrooms. It will be followed by public meetings, debates, exhibitions, and filmshows which will take place throughout the summer. FoE's Roadshow will be visiting selected nuclear installations in August, and topping at all four proposed nuclear waste dumping sites. Our campaigners will be able to answer questions and provide literature and information. The Roadshow includes a fully equipped travelling information centre. In September, we will be organising a Mass Lobby of Parliament and a major Anti-Nuclear Rally in London, which will be timed to coincide with the release of the long-awaited sizewell Report, and this year's Party Political Conferences. We already know the strength of public opposition to nuclear power, but we shall be asking people to demonstrate it publicly by contacting their MP, and standing up to be counted. We will not be doing all this alone. We will be working closely in our campaign with other national environment organisations, such as Greenpeace, as well as with local anti-nuclear groups and citizens' organisations. Our aim is to keep nuclear power firmly on the political agenda right up to the General Election and to get election commitments for phasing out nuclear power and developing safe alternatives. This will entail explicit commitments for a phase-out timetable, changes in energy institutions and legislation, and financial investment and a programme for the alternatives. Our Local Group network will be mobilised to lobby local politicians of all persuasions. It will also be asking candidates in the General Election to declare their views on nuclear power. FoE will be actively campaigning to oust those who support this dangerous technology. We shall also be lobbying at the Party Conferences in the autumn. Our objective here will be to encourage the main opposition parties to harden their attitude towards nuclear power and get them to include a clear and unambiguous ommitment to abandon nuclear technology in their election manifestos.
