INTRODUCTION TO CORE.

CORE started in 1980, campaigning on the import of foreign spent nuclear fuel
through the port of Barrow. The group has since expanded it's campaign to cover
the effects of the sea and air discharges from Sellafield; nuclear waste management;
the health effects of low level radiation; research on the effects of Chernobyl
fallout; compensation cases for people effected by radiation (workers and public
alike) and on reprocessing itself. A detailed copy of the CORE remit is available
from the CORE office.

CORE is made up of members who have the opportunity to vote every year on group
policy (although ideas are welcome at other times too!). The day to day operation of
the group is overseen by an Executive Committee which is elected every year. There
are two full time CORE workers in the CORE office in Barrow.
