Introduction

Uranium mining kills people and animals, destroys the land and livelihoods, and 
makes a lot of money for a select few ...... it's as simple as that!
Stopping it seems not so simple .... though once we take time and bother to think 
about the dangers and consequences, bother to work out just WHO stands to gain and 
WHO will certainly loose out, then stopping the mining is something we MUST do - 
if our future is to have any meaning at all.
It is no coincidence that those who stand to gain from uranium mining (the 
governments of Ireland and elsewhere, the international mining companies) do NOT 
spell out the dangers, do NOT give us a choice as to whether we want it or not. They 
know only too well that once the people who live in a mining area discover the 
dangers, they will want none of it. The mining companies hide the true facts. Instead, 
they assure us of its safety, of the jobs it will create, the sudden prosperity it will 
bring. It is difficult to combat such propaganda because ultimately only time will 
prove them wrong, and then it will be too late. So the main purpose of this short 
pamphlet is to provide as much information as possible about the dangers of uranium 
mining and its consequences for Donegal.... to make YOU think about the dangers 
and the consequences, and question the false optimism and assurances coming from
the government and the mining companies; to find out more for yourself by asking 
questions from the mining company representatives and geologists, and refuse to be 
satisfied with evasive or ill-informed answers; and most important of all, to realise 
that just as it becomes obvious to you that it is dangerous and unwelcome in 
Fintown, that many many other people are beginning to think along the same 
lines--after that it's only a matter of stopping it.
So it is as simple as that---once you look into the dangers and consequences of 
uranium mining you will be left in no doubt about wanting to stop it....
