From the publication:
Atomic Power Station - Fatal Challenge to Life. I've been always insisting that realization of the necessity to abandon atomic power with its present technical level should be considered as an indispensable condition of our survival. This realization, however, is a rather difficult process. It requires overcoming narrow departmental stereotype of thinking. People who are unable to systematically analyze socio-economical and ecological situation can't easily overcome this stereotype. The more so, as for many years they have been, persistently told about the age-long deficiency of energy in our country and that the improvement of the well-being depends first of all on the increase of electrical energy production which is impossible without the building of atomic power stations. For a long time, day by day people have been told that atomic power is allegedly an integral part of modern civilization and nearly its main achievement which will give us a chance to survive. Before the Chernobyl tragedy atom-mongers and other active popularizers and propagandists of APS made the community sure that it was on the threshold of "golden age", that "peaceful"atom" would be an inexhaustible source of energy and would be used for the benefit of people. And that was not a mere propaganda. An idea of forced increase of atomic power was made a principle of state policy.
