About The Workbook…

The Workbook is a fully indexed catalog of sources of information about
environmental, social, and consumer problems. It is aimed at helping people gain
access to vital information that can help them assert control over their own lives.

The Workbook is a tool for all the people who, in their various ways, are working
to provide a world characterized by economic justice; clean air and water and
uncontaminated soil; abundant, safe, minimally polluting energy supplies; rapid,
safe, convenient transportation; convenient recreational areas; clean, quiet, and safe
streets; shops and stores offering a wide variety of durable, safe, and inexpensive
consumer goods; thriving small-town and regional-scale economies; adequate,
readily available child care facilities; inexpensive medical care; participatory
democracy; wholesome, fairly priced food; land reform; decent housing for all;
easily accessible education services; widely available legal help; readily available
scientific and technical tools and advice; scientific land use planning; justice in
the courts; attractive, clean workplaces; meaningful work for all.

Staff members of The Workbook and of Southwest Research and Information Center
believe that war, racism, sexism, poverty, crime, and environmental destruction are
all parts of the same problem. Solutions to the problem will require action on many
fronts. We hope The Workbook can serve this vast, nameless movement for change.
