From the publication:

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, a Crown corporation of the Government of
Canada, has earned its reputation as a technological leader since its establishment
in 1952, gaining international acclaim for its contributions to nuclear technologies -
from basic research to the design and construction of the world's most reliable
nuclear electricity generating stations. AECL has built a world-wide reputation
for the quality of its work and for the dedication of its people.

Although best known for developing the CANDU nuclear power system,
demonstrably the best nuclear power performer on the market, AECL’s scope runs
beyond electricity generating technology. The corporation performs contract
research and development work for industry in Canada and abroad, provides a
variety of specialized nuclear services, manufactures and markets a range of
radioisotopes and equipment for medicine and industry, and is developing and
demonstrating new systems and technologies related to environmental concerns.
The corporation is also designing and prototyping new, small reactors, which will
find applications in research, radioisotope production and space heating.

Finally, AECL provides important linkages to all areas of the Canadian nuclear
industry, from uranium mining companies and fuel fabricators to nuclear plant
operators and equipment and component manufacturers.
