The State of Karnataka is coming on the nuclear map of India in a big way. This land of beauty and plenty has been chosen to house the entire nuclear fuel cycle: uranium mining, processing and enrichment of radioactive materials; burning it in nuclear reactors, stockpiling and ultimate burial of its deadly wastes. This vicious cycle has its spikes rooted in the choicest spots of this State: • Uranium mining in the serene and evergreen hills of the Western Ghats; • Uranium processing and enrichment at Ratnahalli, adjacent to Brindavan Gardens, the most popular tourist spot in Karnataka; • Construction of a reactor complex on the bank of River Kali, again in the midst of a virgin evergreen forest and game sanctuary; • Burial plans for the hazardous wastes In the Kolar Gold Fields, the pride of Karnataka and India.
