INTRODUCTION

ONDRAF/NIRAS has developed a software, MDecay for radioactive decay,
to be installed on PC's using Windows 9.x.

The software MDecay provides the user with two main tools:
• An information tool on the different radionuclides (498 radionuclides).
• A calculation tool for one or more radionuclides (spectrum) and for the activities
of all their daughters for one or more periods in arithmetical, geometric or discreet
progression.

It also fulfills the following functions:
• The calculation of the total alpha and beta activities as well as the thermic
power of these spectrums.
• The application of numerical methods (search of values and integration)
to the results of these calculations.
• The management of the files on the studied spectrums.
• A graphical presentation of the different types of decay and their modes as
well as the stable nuclide(s) at the end of the chain.
• A navigation between the different radionuclides.
• Search tools for similar or related species.

This software does not the following:
• A help menu (this will be included in the next version).
• A graphical interface for displaying the charts resulting from the various
calculations of the different types of decay. (It is, nevertheless, possible to "send"
the results through the clipboard for re-use in a spreadsheet to create charts).
