The Earth IS Getting Hotter

Is it true that the Earth is getting hotter?
Yes! In fact, the three hottest years since the year 1400 were all in the 1990s
(1990, 1995, 1997). (1) In response to the warming climate, the United Nations
established a scientific group - the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC). The objective of the IPCC is to investigate the science of climate change and
advise world leaders on how to deal with the problem. (2) The IPCC has concluded
that humans are actually contributing to the warming of our planet. (3) The global
average temperature already has increased by almost 0.6°C in the past century and
it is projected to rise another 1.0°C - 3.5°C by the year 2100. (4) Although this may
not seem to be a large increase in temperature, it will be a greater change than any
experienced over the last 10,000 years.

How can we be sure?
There are many uncertainties in forecasting climate change. Increasingly however
the concern is not whether global warming is happening, but how bad it will be.
Can we afford to wait until we know more? The longer we delay action, the greater
the disaster will be for our children - and the more costly any future actions will
become. The first signs of climate change are already measurable and noticeable.
If we don't act quickly, our planet will be damaged beyond repair.
