INTRODUCTION

Who is CANCEE?

Climate Action Network Central and Eastern Europe (CANCEE) is an umbrella group
bringing together NGOs from across the Central and Eastern European region which
are concerned with the growing impact of climate change. As a regional grouping of
the global Climate Action Network, CANCEE is part of a world-wide organisation
counting some 280 organisations representing over 10 million individuals.

Why is CANCEE important?

There is now near-consensus among governments that global climate change is a
critical environmental challenge that requires co-ordinated international action. But
as evidence mounts year by year of the real and potential impacts of climate change,
stronger leadership is needed to produce real change in the face of strong vested
interests. Furthermore, the reforms needed to combat climate change are also those
needed to provide dynamic and sustainable economies for the countries in transition.
