From the publication:
ENERGY use in Europe is having severe impacts on people's health, the environment and the economy. Yet many of the key steps which need to be taken in Europe to ensure that our energy needs are met in a sustainable manner, are achievable NOW. Moreover, such measures will enable European nations to follow a path of sustainable economic development, bringing jobs, as well as benefiting the environment and our quality of life. THIS report draws together the findings from work undertaken in eight European countries (Austria, France, Georgia, Italy, Lithuania, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Ukraine), representing a challenging array of energy situations, as part of Friends of the Earth Europe's Energy Alternatives for a Sustainable Europe (EASE) project. The report highlights the major environmental and social concerns arising from our use of energy resources in each country and makes practical proposals aimed at addressing the situation across Europe.
