FOREWORD

Since August 1965 the Nuclear Energy Agency - from 1967 onwards in conjunction
with the International Atomic Energy Agency - has periodically published reports
on uranium resources and demand.

The present report represents yet another revision in this series, with emphasis upon
a more comprehensive treatment of exploration activity and uranium availability.
At the same time, an attempt has also been made to include a greater number of
countries within the scope of this survey, in addition to bringing resources and
production estimates up-to-date.
Information on uranium demand has also been revised in the light of more recent
forecasts of the growth of nuclear power, and the longer-term impact of advanced
reactors has been analysed. Supply and demand data for other fuel cycle services
have been omitted from this revision, in deference to an NEA report, Nuclear Fuel
Cycle Requirements and Supply Considerations, through the long-term, that is
issued separately.
The information on uranium resources, production and exploration has been
prepared in the framework of the joint "NEA/IAEA Working Party on Uranium
Resources". Information on uranium requirements has been prepared by the
Secretariat based on the work of the NEA Working Party on Uranium Demand.
The members of the Working Party on Uranium Resources under whose direction
this report has been prepared are listed in the Annex.
