From the publication:

Since August 1965, the Nuclear Energy Agency - from 1967 onwards in conjunction
with the International Atomic Energy Agency - has periodically published reports
on uranium supply and demand. This report, commonly known as the "Red Book",
is the tenth in this series.

There have been several changes from the definitions and terminology used in
previous reports in the series and the reader's attention is drawn to the section
"Definitions and Terminology" in which these changes are explained and which
should be read before the remainder of the report.

The information on uranium resources, production and exploration has been
prepared in the framework of the "NEA/IAEA Working Party on Uranium Resources"
using data provided, in response to a questionnaire, by national authorities. Unless
specifically indicated otherwise, the report is concerned with data related to the
situation in the World Outside the Centrally Planned Economies Area (WOCA).
Membership of the Working Party was open to representatives of all those countries
that responded to the questionnaire. The names of the members of the NEA/IAEA
Working Party on Uranium Resources under whose direction this report has been
prepared are listed in an Annex of this report.

Information on short term (present to 1995) uranium demand has been provided by
national authorities in response to questionnaires. For the longer term, projections
of uranium demand were made under the guidance of the Working Party on Nuclear
Fuel Cycle Requirements (WPNFCR).

This report studies the uranium supply position throughout WOCA by compiling data
on uranium resources, past and present production and plans for future expansions
from over 50 countries and compares these data with possible future reactor
requirements. It goes on to examine the levels of exploration for uranium in the
light of the needs for new resource discoveries. The report also contains information
on thorium resources.
