1. INTRODUCTION Designs of nuclear reactors can be classified in "evolutionary", "revolutionary, and "innovative" designs [1]. Evolutionary designs are meant to be realized in short term and based on proven large scale commercial technology. Examples are EPR and ABWR. So called "advanced" reactors make more use of passive safety systems, e.g. SBWR and AP-600. Innovative designs are deviating most radically from existing technology and inherent safety characteristics are implemented in the most extreme way. One such innovative design is the High Temperature Reactor (HTR).
