From the publication:
FOREWORD This report provides the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s draft assessment of severe accident risks for a set of commercial nuclear power plants. Because of the importance of this work to a variety of NRC regulatory activities, this report is being circulated widely for comment on its methods and results. In this report, severe accident risks are estimated using information on: - the types and frequencies of accidents that can lead to severe core damage and melting; - the performance of the containment structure under severe accident loadings; - the radioactive source terms released into the environment if the containment structure were to fail; and - the offsite consequences (health effects and costs) of these radioactive releases.
