RADIOACTIVITY LEVEL AND CANCER IN LONG ISLAND

By Jay M. Gould
Director, The Radiation an Public Health Project

Recent data indicate that in addition to breast cancer, Suffolk County, New York,
has the nation's highest mortality rate for all cancers, including prostate cancer,
for the years 1988-92. This study is one of a series by the Radiation and Public
Health Project examining these high rates of cancer and their possible relation to
radioactive releases from Brookhaven National Laboratory.
