HEALTH AND SAFETY ANNUAL REPORT 1987 BNFL devotes considerable resources to maintaining and improving the health and safety of its workforce and keeping discharges of radioactive materials to a minimum. The Company has invested hundreds of millions of pounds in new plant which has reduced radioactive discharges to the lowest levels ever achieved and has resulted in significantly lower levels of radiation exposure to our workforce. In previous years BNFL has published a report covering Occupational Safety, and a separate report dealing with Radioactive Discharges and Monitoring of the Environment. This report marks the start of a new approach which, as well as including the topics covered in previous years, contains a new section dealing with services foroccupational health within BNFL. The Company aims to provide a comprehensive review of the impact that BNFL's activities have on the workforce, members of the general public and the environment. More detailed information on the subjects covered in this report continues to be available on request from the Directorate of Health and Safety and Environmental Protection, BNFL, Risley, Warrington, Cheshire, WA3 6AS.
