FOREWORD Argillaceous materials are characterized by favourable properties from the viewpoint of radioactive waste isolation. In particular their low permeability and high sorption capacity make them a very effective barrier. It is therefore logicalthat the utilisation of argillaceous materials for waste isolation is under consideration in a number of countries. AVANT-PROPOS Les matériaux argileux sont caractérisés par des propriétés propices du point de vue de l'isolement des déchets radioactifs. En particulier, leur faible perméabilité et leur capacité de sorption élevée en font une barrière très efficace. Il est donc logique que l'utilisation des matériaux argileux pour l'isolement des déchets soit à l'étude dans un certain nombre de pays.
