Introductory Remarks

On behalf of the Department of Energy, Sandia National Laboratories, and the
University of California Scripps Institution for Oceanography, I wish to welcome
each of the participants and observers to the Seventh Annual NEA/OECD Seabed
Working Group Meeting.
My thanks to the Sandia National Laboratories staff for the time and effort they
have spent to make the detailed arrangements for this meeting.
Welcome to each of you who is participating in the Seabed Working Group for the
first time, either as participants or observers. And, of course, welcome to those of
you who have continued to add to the success of the shared results of research and
investigations and the most beneficial exchange of information which has occurred
in these workshops over the years.
We welcome the representatives from Switzerland and the Federal Republic of
Germany, who have officially joined the NEA Seabed Working Group since our last
meeting, and our colleagues from Italy, who are participating as observers for the
first time. We encourage all to participate fully in the discussions and workshops.
