Summary The present report describes the state-of-the-art of transmutation of actinides and long lived fission products. The existing and innovative technologies for the recycling of uranium, plutonium, minor actinides and fission products are discussed and their possibilities and limits are identified. Also the possibilities of limiting the production of transuranium elements by the use of thorium cycles is considered. Various scenarios for the recycling of actinides and fission products as well as for thorium cycles have been assessed.
