THE INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN WASTES: A GREENPEACE INVENTORY

INTRODUCTION

The following report should not be mistaken as a complete inventory of the entire
realm of the international trade in wastes. Instead, we have attempted to catalog
the known universe of waste - - traffic to provide a starting point for research
into this troubling topic.

Perhaps the most disturbing fact is that this extensive reference document
probably represents only the "tip of the iceburg" of the international trade in
wastes. Greenpeace is committed to exposing the full extent of this deadly trade,
and welcomes information from all sources. Requests for confidentiality are
fully respected.

It is Green peace’s hope that the information contained herein will convince
the world's governments to enact a strong global convention which will
permanently criminalize the international waste trade.
