Designed by Sa/en Technologies AB (Saltech) on commission by Svensk
Kärnbränslehantering AB, SKB (the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management
Company) and built by the French shipyard Société Nouvelle des Ateliers et
Chantiers du Havre, M/S Sigyn was delivered in 1982 and now sails under the
Swedish flag. She is a combined ro-ro/lo-lo ship specially designed for the
transport of radioactive materials. The cargo is normally driven straight into
the hold through an aft ramp. It can also be lifted onto the ship using
shore-based cranes.
