Shipping tritiated heavy water

Late in 1987, a facility for removing tritium from heavy water is scheduled to
begin operating at the Darlington Nuclear Generating station. About six months
before start up, Ontario Hydro will start shipping tritiated heavy water from
Pickering Nuclear Generating Station to Darlington to fill up and test the Tritium
Removal Facility.

Sometime between 1988 and 1990, tritiated heavy water will also be shipped from
the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station to Darlington for processing. In both cases
the tritiated heavy water will be shipped in very strong containers on flat bed trucks.
At the peak of operation, this would involve no more than five shipments per week.
