From the publication:
Preface From the work of the Agency in recent months let me pick out just two themes that have been particularly prominent. The first is the whole range of activities designed to enhance safety of nuclear power generation. Here, special attention has been devoted to older reactors, notably those of the VVER 440-230 type in Central/Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. The outcome of the Agency's current study of these reactors, with the follow-up work, is intended to help strengthen the safe operation of such plants to enable them to continue contributing to the supply of electricity for their national grids.
