SUMMARY In following the objectives of this study, a section of this report is devoted to a review of the physical and chemical properties of depleted uranium and its principal compounds and a brief account of the mechanical working of the metal. Included also are sections devoted to the past industrial uses for uranium and its products and to the health and safety aspects of handling depleted uranium in an industrial shop. These were included in the report to furnish material which would be suitable to inform and interest potential users of depleted uranium in general industry. The bulk of the report is devoted to consideration of potential uses for depleted uranium in industry. Some of these suggested uses are extensions of past uses; others are in the realm of blue-sky thinking which will require further consideration and research in order to establish some parameters outlining their technical and economic feasibility. Potential uses in the fields of semiconductors, cathodic protection, ion exchange, heavy-density media for mineral concentration, and some metallurgical applications are among those in the latter category. Further study and research will be needed to define the limitations and applications involved.
