From the publication:
SKI oversees safety in the field of nuclear technology The Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate, SKI (Statens Kärnkraftinspektion), is the regulatory body under the Nuclear Activities Act. As regulatory authority, SKI's principal duties are to license, to oversee and promote safety at the various nuclear facilities and to make sure that fissionable material is handled and stored in accordance with existing laws and agreements. Direct responsibility for safety at nuclear facilities lies, however, with the owners, who, according to the Nuclear Activities Act, must comply with directives issued by the regulatory authority. SKI's role is to make sure that the licensee takes this responsibility. SKI is also responsible for initiating, directing and evaluating research and development in the field of nuclear safety. Another important SKI responsibility is to keep the public informed about nuclear safety work.
