This report deals with the confirmation of local acceptance of the site selection process as tothe final disposal repository of spent nuclear fuel in Finland.(1 )The research period is limited tothe years 1985-1999. This limitation was due to the fact that the nuclear power companyTeollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO) stated that it had chosen the bedrock of Katosuo in Lavia as a testing site for its research methods in January 1984. After that TVO chose the Kalliolampi site in the municipality of Ikaalinen as its primary research site in March 1986. However, TVO had to leave Ikaalinen early, in April 1986 due to local objections. The research period ended by the year 1999, because in May 1999 the nuclear waste management company Posiva Oy established by the nuclear power companies TVO and Imatran Voima (IVO) in 1995 suggested that the Government consider only Olkiluoto in Eurajoki in its application of a decision in principle to be a final disposal site. Posiva ended its research in Kuhmo, Loviisaand Äänekoski, which resulted in the termination of the one-case groups operating in thesemunicipalities. In January 2000 the Eurajoki local authority made a positive statement on thedecision in principle. In other words, it did not use its right of veto as specified by the Nuclear Energy Act. The discussion about the final site that had been going on over ten years waned.
