From the publication:

Norwegian-Russian research expeditions to the northern ocean areas show that
radioactivity in the sea is low, and is lower than in other ocean areas.
The radioactive substances found are primarily due to radioactive fallout produced
by testing of nuclear weapons and the transport of radioactivity from the south by
the ocean. Dumping has had little effect on general radioactivity content. Protection
of the environment and future generations calls for continued efforts to curb
radioactive pollution. Because several potential sources of pollution exist in the
area the content of radioactive substances in the northern ocean areas should also
be monitored in the future.
