If we think of the harm that the Chernobyl nuclear power station explosion has done and will do to people it may well be considered the biggest disaster of the XX century, a national affliction that has changed the destinies of thousands upon thousands of people living on a vast territory. The Chernobyl accident has set exceptionally complex, global tasks embracing practically all aspects of human life, many realms of science and production, problems of morality and ethics. As a result of the accident over 50 million Curie of various radionuclides were thrown into the atmosphere. 70 percent of the radiation descended in Byelorussia. More than 18 percent of its territory (1,623 thousand hectares) were subjected to radioactive contamination. 27 towns and 2,697 villages in five out of the six regions with up to 2 million population (one-fifth of the republic's population) have been hit. An enormous damage has been done to the republic's agriculture. Авария на Чернобыльекой АЭС по своим долговременным последствиям является самой масштабной катастрофой ХХ века, национальным бедствием, изменившим судьбы сотен тысяч людей, проживающих на огромных территориях. Чернобыльекая авария поставила исключительно сложные, глобальные задачи, которые затрагивают практически все сферы общественной жизни, многие области науки и производства, вопросы морали и нравственности. В результате аварии на Чернобыльекой АЭС во внешнюю среду выброшено более 50 миллионов кюри различных радионуклидов, 70 процентов этих веществ приходится на Белоруссию. В Белорусской ССР радиоактивному загрязнению подверглось более 18 процентов ее территории (1623 тысячи гектаров).
