Summary:

The issue of this first part of the Chernobyl Projekt for Greenpeace was to search for
scientific literature about the consequences of the Chernobyl accident in the USSR.

1. Introduction

At the beginning of March 1991 we started a literature review on Chernobyl
environmental contamination by order of Greenpeace International. The main purpose
of the project was to provide Greenpeace International with information about the
extent of the radioactive contamination in the Ukraine as a background document for
an environmental monitoring program in this republic.

Since the quality and quantity of existing information was unknown, we decided
to divide the study into two phases:

Phase 1: Collection and compilation of the references and evaluation of the
informations with respect to their usefulness to our problem.
Phase 11: The critical literature review itself.

The results of Phase I are given in this report.
