Foreword

This file provides participants with a global overview of the atomic disaster at
Tchernobyl, reactions to it in Europe, and the political consequences. It also
includes some thoughts on strategy from international networks and
organisations involved in the struggle against nuclear energy.

It has had to be written in a short time, mainly on the basis of a wide range of press
cuttings, but also using material from WISE, Greenpeace and "Die Grünen".

The basic text is In English. Some of the annexes backing up the text are reproduced
in the original language. If it emerges that there is a demand for translations of
these texts, GRAEL we see whether that can be arranged.

The basic text was drafted by Willy Weyns (ch. s 2. 4. 5 and 6)and Herman Verhagen
(ch. s 1. 3 and 7). The final editing and the translation of ch.s 1.3 and 7 were done
by John Lambert.
