FOREWORD

The IAEA has prepared a collection of information on nuclear research reactors in
conjunction with its Member States. Its overall objective is to provide Member
States with data and information, both general and technical, on all nuclear research
reactors in the world. It contains administrative, technical and operational data on
all nuclear research reactors currently operating, under construction, shut down or
planned. This comprehensive collection was established for the first time in 1978,
following information received from reactor owners in 1977-78.
This publication briefly describes the Nuclear Research Reactor Data Base and the
programmes of IAEA Member States in the areas of research reactor applications.
The report presents a brief overview of the Research Reactor Data Base (RRDB) and
provides a status report on the types and applications of research reactors in Member
States. The information given here is based on the database material, published
reports and written and oral communications with experts in Member States.
This report was initially prepared by R.L.Wright, who acted as a Consultant to the
IAEA's Division of Research and Laboratories. Assistance was also provided by the
Division of Scientific and Technical Information.
