Inleiding. Deze doctoraalscriptie is een kritische evaluatie van het in november 1980 verschenen EPRI-rapport van M. Levensen en f. Rahn: "Realistic Estimates of the consequences of Nuclear Accidents". Zoals uit de titel reeds blijkt, gaat het in dit rapport voornamelijk om de gevolgen (de omvang) van een kernsmelt ongeval en niet zozeer om de kans daarop. EPRI staat voor Electrical Power Research Institute, die ongeveer vergelijkbaar is met de KEMA.
