Uit de publicatie:
Uranium is an energy resource. Like coal, oil, and other fuels it must be processed before being used in power plants to produce electricity. Each of these fuels is prepared for use in a series of steps that make up its unique fuel cycle. However, uranium requires a more complex series of changes to become an efficient fuel for electric generation. On its way to being used to produce electricity, uranium goes through: mining and milling, conversion, enrichment, and fuel fabrication. These steps make up the "front end" of the nuclear fuel cycle. Uranium requires a series of steps to process it after it has been used to produce electricity. These "back end" steps include spent fuel storage, reprocessing, and permanent waste disposal.
