1. INTRODUCTION This report describes the pattern of cancer deaths that we have found to be associated with low-level exposure to radiation among workers employed since 1950 at the Santa Susana Field Laboratories (SSFL) and related Los Angeles-area facilities. These facilities, including the field station, have formed the basis of what is now the Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International. Nuclear operations at the field station in particular have long been a focus of concern. More than fifteen years ago, workers and local residents began raising questions about accidents at the facility and the risk of radioactive releases that might prove harmful to SSFL personnel or the surrounding community..
