Do you know these warning symbols?

If you had trouble identifying number 5, you probably aren't the only one. The
"trefoil" or three-bladed symbol is the warning for radiation. It's not quite as
common as the others, but can be found in fairly ordinary places.
You may see it on a household smoke detector, warning that a small amount of
radioactive material is inside. On the door of a hospital laboratory, it means work
with radiation goes on inside. On a truck, it describes the cargo being carried. And
you might run across one on a property fence, indicating the presence of
radioactive waste.
The marking may appear in any colour combination or even inscribed on metal,
but its official colours are as shown: magenta on yellow.
Like the other symbols, the radiation warning shouldn't frighten anyone. While in
some cases it indicates the actual presence of radiation, most often it just means,
"take care." If the symbol is there, the hazard has been recognized, and something
has been done about it.
Just like household chemicals, power lines, gasoline, and fast-moving trains,
radiation can be dangerous. But if the proper precautions are taken, there are no
grounds for concern.
So we put up signs to warn people: don't be fearful, be careful.
