The Present Conditions of Nuclear Power & Waste and Anti-nuclear Movement in Korea Korean Federation for Environmental Movement (KFEM) YangYI, Won-young 2001. 10.29 1. The present conditions of Nuclear Power in Korea From the aspect of economy, South Korea is between the 30th and 40th country in the world, as a member of OECD. According to the prospect of energy consuming predicted by Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) in Korea, the Korean energy consuming per one person has already overtaken those in Japan and Germany in 2001, and until 2020 it will increase to over 40% of those in two countries in 1997. This data shows clearly that Korea is overconsuming country in energy. With this overconsuming of energy, the electricity consuming is predicted to increase by 4 ~ 5% every year, which is supplied by nuclear power plant around 40%.
