Tohoku University, Japan Constructing Civil Society in Japan Koichi Hasegawa is a professor of sociology in the Graduate School of Arts & Letters. Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, where he teaches courses on social conflicts, social movements, social change and environmental sociology. This book brings together his research into a range of environmental issues and conflicts, including bullet train noise pollution, nuclear facilities and renewable energy. A founding member of the Japanese Association for Environmental Sociology, he has edited both the Japanese Sociological Review and the Journal Environmental Sociology. Other publications include Sociology of Conflict (2004) and A Choice for Post-Nuclear Society (1996) both in Japanese.
