'Nuclear power in the United States, as in every other market economy, is dying. The nuclear industry now expects no domestic orders in this decade. The industry's natural response has been to seek even bigger subsidies for exporting reactors to developing countries. Nuclear exports retard their recipients' energy self-reliance and economic development, promote inequity and repression, reduce national security, and spread bombs. And if New York or Amsterdam, Tel Aviv or Baghdad, Buenos Aires or London, Lahore or New Delhi, should disappear in a bright flash one morning - the victim of an anonymous, undeterrable nuclear attack - we shall have only ourselves to blame for having intensively subsidized and promoted the export of larval bombs to any nation willing to be paid to haul them away.'
