INTRODUCTION

This is the first edition of Nuclear Engineering International's new guide to the 
world's civil nuclear power industry, which will be distributed each year to our 
subscribers (and which can also be purchased separately).
For the first time we have gathered together in one convenient volume information 
on well over 2300 organisations and companies serving the nuclear industry, 
together With full technical details of every known power reactor in the world - 
operating, under construction, planned and shutdown.
In addition we have included a wealth of other information - such as a 1987 
conference listing, an at-a-glance statistical summary of the current state of 
nuclear power, data on individual reactor performance, information on the fuel 
cycle, and a map of nuclear stations.
The result is nothing less than an encyclopaedia of nuclear power worldwide - a 
one-stop reference source of unprecedented scope for all those concerned with the 
civil nuclear power industry.
Since all information in the handbook is derived from direct communication with 
the organisations involved, it constitutes a major repository of primary data about 
nuclear energy.
