INTRODUCTION Welcome to the fifth edition of Sustainable Development International. After the unprecedented success of previous editions, our technical, strategic and commercial information continues to focus on the implementation of sustainable development and Agenda 21. We are pleased to feature some excellent case studies showcasing the achievements of successful projects from CRIPED discussing The Peanut Basin of Senegal', Ondeo featuring a great paper on 'Alternative Solutions to Provide Sanitation Services to all' and the Andrew Lees Trust looking at 'Fuel Efficiency Stove Technology'. Climate change is an important focal point in this edition as we continue to cover the policies that shape the framework for implementation. With the advent of COP7 later this year, each section features an excellent article on climate change, with the leading paper written by the World Climate Research Programme. In addition, the latter part of this year has seen some excellent conferences and a paper from Anna Tibaijuka, the Executive Director of UNCHS (Habitat), details the review and appraisal of the Habitat Agenda-Istanbul +5. An article from the United Nations Forum on Forests showcases the success of UNFF's first session held in June earlier this year, detailing how UNFF are facilitating the transfer of post-Rio proposals and recommendations into real actions.
